The Mission Festival has come and gone,
orders for SERRV items have been
completed. The final back orders have come
in and have been picked up. As a review of
the festival:
- •Sunday, September 25, Gerry Turner
and Cathy Williamson gave an
Intergenerational Study on Children of
Biblical Lands.
- •Monday, September 26, following Bible
study, Marvin Willard, a former
missionary with Kairos (which is a prison
ministry) spoke to us on his work. Then
Mr. And Mrs. Albert Kalkos,
missionaries to the Philippines talked to
us about their mission work. What
adventures they have had! After the brief
program, we had lunch for all.
- •Tuesday, September 27 at 6:00 p.m. we
had the United Methodist Women's
General Dinner Meeting. Mr. Jose
Morelos spoke to us on his mission in
Cuba, The Caribbean and South
American. He travels there to arrange to
have churches built. Just recently, he had
been jailed in Cuba even though all his
papers were in order. It was a harrowing
experience and we all were on the edge
of our seats as we listened.
- •Friday, September 30 at 9:00 a.m. , we
met at FUMC and took the van to
Portsmouth to visit with John Hatcher at
the Wesley Community Service Center.
Our clowns, Jerry and Martha Dodson
entertained the group there. Grace
Woltz played the piano and we all sang
and had lots of fun. Seven of us went
over: Jerry, Martha, Virginia McGrory,
Cindy McGrory, Marguerite
Thompson, Grace Woltz and I.
As a result of our visit there, we noticed
the sad condition of their chairs and
piano in the fellowship hall. We have
already delivered 50 chairs
to them and we are trying to
arrange for our unused piano
to be delivered there also.
- •Sunday, October 2
following the second
worship service we
celebrated with our
annual Potato Luncheon
to close our eight-day
Festival. Contributions were $455 to go to
The Society of St. Andrew.
As a result of interest in mission trips and
missionaries' adventures, we are planning to
offer several working trips:
- •Eastern Shore
- •Mattaponi Reservation Medical Clinic
- •Trip to Williamsburg St. Bedes Parish
Center to visit with a disabled group

On Wednesday, October 19 at 5:30 during
midweek fellowship, our covenant missionary,
John Elmore, visited with us. After dinner,
he and John talked about
his work in Chile, where he
builds parsonages and
churches for Methodist
congregations. What a
delight to have him come
and for us to learn more
about his mission there.
We all had lots of
questions.
Food Lion Share Program
Another check was received from this
program for $24.21. Twenty-five dollars will
be transferred from the mission account into
the youth fund.
