A Christmas Prayer

Mabel Clare Thomas
I do not ask for riches, Lord,
In this my Christmas prayer,
Nor do I seek fame's transient glow,
However bright and fair.
The gift I seek is richer far,
Purer, undefiled -
Oh, give me, Lord, the love and trust
In the heart of a little child.

The first Sunday in Advent was November 27. The Advent Season is observed during the first four weeks of each new church year and leads to the Festival of Christmas. Early Christians treated the days before Christmas as a time of repentance, and others as a time of joyous celebration.

The color of Advent is purple. The ancient tradition of purple symbolizes Advent's emphasis on repentance. Our windows will be set with purple candles and our wreaths with purple bows.

The sanctuary will be decorated with red poinsettias starting December 4. Order forms have been available in the Sunday bulletins. The last form will be in the December 4 bulletin. The cut off date for ordering will be Monday, December 5. Thank you for participating in making our sanctuary so beautiful once again for Christmas.

On Sunday, December 18 there will be one worship service at 10:45 a.m. and on Sunday, December 25, Christmas Day, there will be one worship service at 10:00 a.m.

A Christmas Concert will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve followed by the traditional Candlelight Christmas Eve Communion Service at 7:30 p.m.

The Worship Committee would like to thank Fred Way, Clyde Keller and Glenn Miller for putting up and lighting the Chrismon Tree and Ed Wagner and the ladies for hanging the Chrismons.

Merry Christmas - Happy New Year
