The United Methodist Church has designated November 13th as TISSUE AND ORGAN DONOR SUNDAY. There is a critical shortage of organs and tissue in this country. More than 82,000 men, women and children in the United States are waiting for a lifesaving transplant. Through donation, one person can save or enhance the lives of more than 50 people on this list.
The decision to give the gift of life often takes place in the setting of a tragedy. Overwhelmed by their loss, family members can have a difficult time making the decision to donate - especially if they had not talked about donation prior to the death of the loved one.
By discussing donation with your family members now, you ensure that they know your views on organ and tissue donation, and you know theirs.
The United Methodist Church issued a policy statement in regards to organ and tissue donation. In it, they state that "The United Methodist Church recognizes the life-giving benefits of organ and tissue donation, and thereby encourages all Christians to become organ and tissue donors by signing and carrying cards or driver's licenses, attesting to their commitment of such organs upon their death, to those in need, as a part of their ministry to others in the name of Christ, who gave His life that we might have life in its fullness."
Assistance is needed for persons willing to assist with paper work on the day of Blood Pressure Screening. Absolutely no medical background is required. Screenings are scheduled in the parlor for the second Sunday of each month at 8:00 am and immediately following the second service. Help is especially needed at the second screening. Please contact me if you can help. Bette Jones (851-8797) or the church office.
