As this is being written, plans are finalizing for the Mission Festival. By the time you receive this, the Festival will be over, but our SERRV, "A Greater Gift" sales display will still be up and operating. If you have not seen it, please come by the fellowship hall and take a look.

This year the United Methodist Women and the United Methodist Men coordinated with us on their programs and that resulted in a more mission inclusive Festival. The Intergenerational Mission Study and dinner on Sunday, September 25 started us off with the involvement of our youth and children. The study topic was "Children of Biblical Lands," which was the intergenerational study taught at the School of Christian Mission this summer.

On Monday, September 26, following the Bible study at 11:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall, we were honored to have a former missionary from Cairo visit with us and share some of his experiences. Immediately after our discussion with Mr. Marvin Willard we broke bread together with lunch provided. Mr. Marvin Willard came to us highly recommended by Debbie Lewis of Williamsburg UMC.

On Tuesday, September 27, as part of the United Methodist Women's General Meeting, Jose Morelos, Director of The Word for International Cooperating Ministries in Central Carribean and South America, shared his testimony and his recent experience on a trip to Cuba.

Thursday, September 29, a mission trip to Williamsburg to work with a small group of disabled people under the direction of Darla Krupski is planned. Thursday is their gardening day and we will help with that. A light lunch, provided by the church will be served before we leave at 11:45. We will return around 3:00 or 4:00 p.m.

Friday, September 30, a group will be going to Portsmouth to visit John Hatcher's Wesley Community Service Center. This was so successful last year we were anxious to return for more fun with the group that comes there for lunch and fellowship.

Saturday, October 1, the United Methodist Men will be having their breakfast meeting (8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.). They will be reporting on their trip to the 9th Annual Gathering at Purdue University.

Sunday, October 2, we will have our annual potato luncheon, immediately following the 10:45 worship service.

Operation Christmas Child is part of our mission committee focus this fall. This is a unique project of Samaritan's Purse which Franklin Graham heads. Sharing God's love with hurting girls and boys in the far corners of the globe is the motivation behind each shoebox that's filled. These boxes will go to 92 different countries. Many will be given to Hurricane Katrina's children. This is a great way to teach our children about missionary work. I urge each of you to fill a shoebox for a needy child. Last year 7.4 million boxes were delivered! Pamphlets with complete instructions can be found in the narthex. Remember: as you're packing your box, the most important item to include is Prayer. Deadline for turning in boxes is October 23.
