If you've prayed about being a lay speaker of the Untied Methodist Church, you'll have the opportunity Friday and Saturday, September 23 and 24. The annual district training will take place at First UMC, Newport News.
Lay speakers combine words and action in leadership roles within their churches and communities. The basic course is the beginning of this specialized caring ministry. Hours of the course are: Friday, 7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. and Saturday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Graduates of the basic course will be local Lay Speakers. Their next training will be an advanced course, which must be done within three years. This year's advanced course will be "Lay Speakers Lead Small Groups."
