Mission Notes

June Loving, Captain
Lines Double
Summer is upon us and everyone is "off" in different directions with vacations, conferences, vacation Bible school and, summer classes. Hence let us briefly review the year so far in reference to mission activities, of course.

Recycling - Cell Phones, Inkjet Cartridges

We have sent a box of cell phones and a box of inkjet cartridges in for recycling and hopefully some cash will be forthcoming from that action.

Please continue to save these items and turn them in to me or to the church office to be sent with the next batch to be recycled.

Recycling - Eye Glasses

During this past month (June), we have contributed a box full of glasses, frames, and cases. They have gone to the Lion's Club for recycling for persons in need of them. When we help someone see, we brighten their life and give them a chance for a job or just the joy of clearer sight.

Eastern Shore Migrant Workers Mission

Sonny and Sandra Forbes, Cindy Bush and I took the van loaded with pots, pans, dishes, glassware, towels, sheets, shoes, blankets, curtains, long-sleeve shirts, and assorted summer clothing to Rev. Carmen Colonna for her mission on the Eastern Shore. These were requested items and much needed.

By the way, Carmen was thrilled with the $1,700 from us!

Refugee Assistance requested by the Virginia Council of Churches

We have contributed beds, springs, mattresses, clothes, dinette sets, chairs and blankets to that worthy cause.

Other Clothes Collections

In October, we will start collecting fall/winter clothes and other items as needed and requested.

Mission Festival is Coming
September 25 - October 2

Watch the church bulletin or the bulletin boards for more exciting news as we plan this great experience for our church.

Our missionary, John Elmore will be coming to Virginia in October. He may not make it in time for our festival, but his visit will make a great culmination to our mission festivities.

LINK/PORT

The PORT experience this year in December and March was our busiest so far. We had more guests than in the past. The need has expanded substantially.

In addition to the feeding and housing of the homeless guests, we sent a quantity of clothes there for distribution to the men and women. Jerry Dodson took many boxes and bags of groceries to them for distribution from the collections we make here at FUMC every second Sunday. Please continue to contribute; the needs of the poor and the homeless are growing. There is a lot of suffering out there - just beyond the church doors.
