In recognition of its emergency response efforts to the tsunami and earthquake ravaged nations of South Asia, First United Methodist Church Foundation has contributed $4,000 to the South Asia Emergency Fund (Advance # 274305) of The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).

UMCOR is responding through its ecumenical partners to the Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami catastrophe, which has caused widespread destruction to many nations in South Asia. Areas affected include: Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Somalia, Bangladesh, India, etc. UMCOR pledges that 100 percent of financial gifts received to its South Asia Emergency Fund will go directly to the region's relief and recovery efforts.

OTHER GRANT ACTIVITY

Through its grants program, FUMC-Foundation annually provides funding for outreach ministry on behalf of First Church. The Grants Committee of FUMC Foundation, chaired by Mahla Swinford, is in the process of reviewing grant applications for 2005 funding consideration.

Last year, the Foundation provided $ 45,552 in grant funding to 17 nonprofit, community outreach organizations, plus FUMC Student Recognition Awards. While available grant funding varies annually, past Foundation grants have ranged in amount from a few hundred to several thousand dollars.

All past recipients of FUMC Foundation grants have received applications to apply for funding consideration again this year. Should you know of additional organizations or a special need to be considered, please contact Mahla Swinford, Grants Committee Chairperson, for a 2005 FUMC Foundation Grant Application. Please note that grant guidelines require that submitting agencies provide financial statements for the last two years and verification of tax-exempt status.
