Well, we have another huge meeting coming up and I hope to see all of you there. Mark your calendar now for Tuesday, May 17 at 7:15 p.m. for our next general meeting. We are inviting the men to join us for this important meeting. Following our Candle Burning Ceremony we will have a special program given by Susan Goodwyn, who will speak on her several mission experiences in Peru.
It's not too late to get your candle burning money in - 57¢ represents the amount it cost to support one of our missionaries per second. You may give as much as you would like in memory or in honor of someone - we will figure out how many seconds it represents. You can do this at your next circle meeting or get in touch with Carolyn Smith.
UMCOR field offices have requested nearly 193,000 health kits for distribution in 2005 - more than UMCOR has ever shipped before. New operations in Indonesia and Sri Lanka have placed demands on supplies of kits. Elderly refugees and children displaced from their homes in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia are also beneficiaries. The kits provide much needed supplies for daily hygiene for vulnerable people who have little to call their own. The 2005 requests for school kits is also at a record high - some 78,000 school-age children will receive school kits, but only if supplies allow. Health kits and school kits are fun to assemble and can introduce even young children to the satisfaction of hands-on mission. Items for each kit can be found each week in the bulletin or in the back of your membership book.
The Peninsula District United Methodist Women invite you to the Prayer Breakfast during the Virginia Annual Conference. The UMW of Chestnut Memorial UMC will provide a delicious breakfast. Seating may begin at 6:30 a.m. with serving to begin at 7:00 a.m. The date is Tuesday, June 14. Cost $10. Let me know if you are interested in going. Tickets are limited.
