From the Pastor's Desk . . .
Dear Friends,
The season of Lent will begin soon, February 9. We will gather in the Fellowship Hall to have a Midweek Dinner and then a service of the imposition of ashes as we begin the season of penitence, prayer, fasting, and reflection. Last year the season was marked by the movie, The Passion of the Christ. Many of us went to see this film and we spent a Wednesday evening discussing its meaning. I am still thinking about all of that. Our parish nurse kindly gave us a DVD of this movie for our Library. It is difficult for us folks in an age of "news bites" and other splashy events and media to think about a season of penitence, prayer, fasting and reflection. It seems contrary to all we are doing most of the time. And it is meant to be. The seasons of the church year offer a time to think about different aspects of Jesus' life, death and resurrection. We retell this story in worship each Sunday. As your pastor I am constantly thinking about ways in which we can communicate and deepen the stories of Jesus for all ages. Your input on this is important and I listen to your point of view and ideas. We should remember that the church is an "Embassy of the Kingdom of Heaven" here on earth and we march to a different drummer, Jesus the Crucified, Resurrected and Coming Again. Let us share the Lord's work together as we gather for all the seasons of the church year and of our lives.
In Christ
