Happy New Year! Can you believe it is 2005? 2004 past so quickly. We had so much fun celebrating our 135th birthday. I'm anxious to see what challenges God has in store for us this year.

Thank you to everyone who helped with the sweat shirt project for Hilton Plaza. We collected enough money so that every resident could have their own gift for Christmas and we had enough left to purchase a VCR/DVD player and several movies for the group. This is something the home did not have. Everyone was so excited and grateful for all that you did.

For those who may not have heard, in addition to the $3,675 we pledged to mission through the district, we also gave $400 to the Soup Kitchen, $300 to Jerry Dodson's Ministries and $300 to Trinity United Methodist Church in Poquoson to help with repairs of their youth building due to Hurricane Isabel. We also gave $726.60 to Brighter Future for Children and Youth, LINK, The Rescue Mission, UMCOR, Menchville, House and Teen Challenge. These funds came from our fashion show and the craft show. God has richly blessed us, so we can bless others.

world-prayer.gif Looking toward 2005, our theme for the year is Our World, Through Prayer. Our program book is a collection of programs devoted to prayer. They cover a variety of information on prayer such as how to pray, how to write prayers, how to deepen your experience of the Lord's prayer and other approaches that we should find useful.

This should be a year of great spiritual growth and unity as we look at new or different ways to pray. It's hard to be divided when you're praying together. Also, I wonder how different our world will look to us as we look at it though prayer. I'm reminded that we only get out of something what we put into it. I challenge each of you to attend your circle meetings, the four general meeting, to take part in the reading program, to invite some one to become involved in UMW and become as active in UMW activities as you are able. Any woman reading this who may not be a member of the UMW, we invite you to become part of this organization. Any woman would be glad to help you find your place, or contact me at the church office, 595-0838.

Well, I promised you a surprise last month. Here goes. The next United Methodist Women Southeastern Jurisdiction Quadrennial Meeting will be April 4 - 6, 2008 at the Convention Center in Hampton, Virginia. How exciting is that! We have a long time to talk about it, but it's not too early to start thinking about it. Let me know if you have any ideas. We'll pass them on.
