At a recent meeting of representatives of the Peninsula District of the United Methodist Churches, the major topic of discussion was ways in which the church can become more involved in the political process.

One of the major points was a discussion about the United Methodist Day at the General Assembly in Richmond which will be held on January 27, 2005. This very special day is being sponsored by the Virginia Conference, Board of Church and Society and the Virginia Conference United Methodist Women.
A very interesting agenda has been prepared starting with a welcome by the Bishop. Guides will be provided to tour the Capitol and the Governor's Mansion. Opportunities will also be provided to attend committee meetings of the legislature. A catered box lunch will be followed by a viewing of the noon session of the House. In the afternoon an opportunity will be provided to hear a panel discussion from speeches on current legislative issues.
Some of the legislative priorities of the Virginia Interfaith Center are as follows:
Of course there are many more social issues to be addressed in order to make Virginia a better place to live and to worship. It behooves us to become as informed as possible about these issues, and to become involved in finding the best solutions.
If you would like to become involved in this process, why not sign up for the United Methodist Day in Richmond on Thursday, January 27. Please indicate your interest by contacting the church office at 595-0383, or June Loving at 877-2569 so that we may make proper plans. Registration is $6 and is required by Saturday, January 22.
