Many women when speaking publicly, seem to disdain using, or have a problem with, the microphone. Some of us even announce that our voices carry fine without one, though few female voices really do.
At a political rally recently, an impassioned young lady spoke at length about women's rights, all the while clutching a mike to heart as though it were a sacred cross. Much of her message was lost.
Sometimes the best laid plans... I was in charge of a church women's program in which a number o women had speaking parts. At our rehearsal, I made sure that the microphone was turned on, adjusted correctly and all the ladies were instructed in how to speak into it. Yet at the end of the program some people told me they had trouble hearing.
It turns out our guest guitarist who accompanied the singing had observed where the controls were located, and before the program began had lowered the volume so her guitar would "sound better," she said. I was flabbergasted, because she is a lovely person.
Ladies, if you want to be heard, please use the mike and speak boldly into it. Your words are too valuable to just float away into space.
Our 50th anniversary was a big success. New windows for the educational building are on their way. Your financial support for these projects is greadly needed and appreciated. Thank you to those who have supported these and other projects in the past.
