Home Playground Safety Checklist

Use this simple checklist to help make sure your home playground is a safe place to play.

• Install and maintain a shock-absorbing surface around the play equipment. Use at least 9 inches of wood chips, mulch, or shredded rubber for play equipment up to 7 feet high. If sand or pea gravel is used, install at least 9-inch layer for play equipment up to 5 feet high. Or, use surfacing mats made of safety-tested rubber or rubber-like materials.



• Install protective surfacing at least 6 feet in all directions from play equipment. For swings, be sure surfacing extends, in back and front, twice the height of the suspending bar.



• Never attach - or allow children to attach - ropes, jump ropes, clotheslines, or pet leashes to play equipment; children can strangle on these.



• Check for hardware, like open "S" hooks or protruding bolt ends, which can be hazardous.



• Check for spaces that could trap children, such as openings in guardrails or between ladder rungs; these spaces should measure less than 3.5 inches or more than 9 inches.



• Make sure platforms and ramps have guardrails to prevent falls.



• Carefully supervise children on play equipment to make sure they are safe.



• Remove tripping hazards, like exposed concrete footings, tree stumps, and rocks.



• Regularly check play equipment and surfacing to make sure both are in good condition.

• Check for sharp points or edges in equipment.

Midweek Fellowship begins fall schedule

What is Midweek Fellowship? It is a time of food, fellowship, study, and music for all ages. It begins with supper from 5:30 p.m. to 6:10 p.m. followed with a period of study for adults led by Rev. John LeGault (6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m). The various choirs for children and youth begin at 6:00 p.m. also. Child care is provided for children 3^rd grade and under during the study time.

Midweek Fellowship begins on Wednesday, September 8 with the United Methodist Women hosting the meal which includes BBQ sandwiches, baked beans, cole slaw, and a variety of cupcakes. There will be hot dogs and chips available for the children. We will be collecting school supply items for South Morrison Elementary School, so bring them to Midweek Fellowship on September 8.

The second September date is Wednesday, September 22 with the UM Youth and their parents hosting the meal which will include fried chicken and all the trimmings. Cost of the meals are a donation of your choosing. Please make your dinner reservations by completing the bulletin insert or by calling the church office (595-0383) no later than the Monday before Midweek Fellowship.
