On Sunday, May 9, we entered our freshly painted sanctuary for worship after having been absent for two Sundays while the work was being done. During this time we worshiped in our Fellowship Hall which had been arranged with an effective worship center.
At our Council Meeting in May, Bob McKitrick, to whom all of us are so greatly indebted for his photography and his work on the Internet, presented a magnificent picture which he had taken of the stained glass windows above our altar in our sanctuary. The picture was framed so perfectly by John Talbert.
The first picture in the stained glass window on your left as you face the altar shows Jesus blessing the children (Mark 10:13-16). It was natural for Jewish mothers to bring their children, especially on their first birthday, to a distinguished rabbi to be blessed. The disciples rebuked the children for coming to Jesus believing that He was too busy to take out time to receive them. But Jesus responded with the famous words, "Let the children come to me, do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of Heaven. Verily, I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein." And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them and blessed them.
The middle picture in the stained glass window is a large image of Jesus, surrounded by disciples. The last picture shows Jesus with Lazarus, Mary and Martha.
On Sunday, September 12, we plan to observe the anniversary of 50 years in our present sanctuary. What an exciting celebration this will be! We hope to give special recognition to all of those people who have been members of our church for 50 years or more.
