FAMIS: Virginia's Health Insurance Program for Children. This program has been developed for almost two years but they are now releasing guidelines that are clearly outlined. This program provides quality health coverage for children in working families. FAMIS can help provide children with the benefits of regular medical care. FAMIS PLUS is Virginia's name for children's Medicaid. FAMIS PLUS provides the same great benefits as FAMIS and covers children in families with lower or no income.

Applying for FAMIS and FAMIS PLUS can be done by calling toll free 1-866-273-2647 Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Also, you may apply at your local Department of Social Services. Proof of income is required. There is no enrollment or premium. A small co-fee is due at the time of service. Most are between $2 and $5.
