Another Fashion Show has come and gone. Once again, the women of our unit have worked together to sponsor a wonderful afternoon for missions. I understand that we sold 162 tickets this year -- a new record. This is a tremendous project and takes many people working together to make it successful, however, I do want to give a special "thank you" to Myrna Young for chairing the show, Kathy Hubbard for preparing the food and Judy Talbert for donating all the bunnies. The food was delicious, the models were beautiful and everyone had a great time. And in the process we raised more than $1,600 for mission projects.

I hope all of you are working on Kits for Annual Conference. It is just a few weeks away. Also, mark Tuesday, May 18, 7:00 p.m. for our general meeting and birthday party. This meeting should be a lot of fun and you don't want to miss it. Look around for a friend who is not a member of UMW and extend an invitation to join us. Keep up the good work! All of you are so special.

Your sister in Christ,

Gerry

May Friendship Day

Joanne Bates, Co-President of Newport News CWU

cwu.gifMay Friendship Day will be celebrated by Church Women United of Newport News on Friday, May 7 at Carver Presbyterian Church, 830 25th Street, Newport News. Paula Paige of Carver Church is chairperson of the day.

The Celebration theme is In Faith Women Shape the Future, Through Friendship. As we reflect on our own friendships and how they shape our lives, the program will look at some of the women in the Bible who have shown such characteristics in their own friendships. Above all, we will rejoice in our own friendship with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Registration is at 10:00 a.m., with the program beginning at 10:30 a.m. There will be a fellowship luncheon at noon, as we share finger food dishes brought by each church.

All women are welcome to attend.
