May begins my fourth year as the Parish Nurse for FUMC. These are times I have treasured and I am looking forward to another year in this ministry. Our Pastor, John LeGault has provided constant encouragement and support. Assistance from Joan Bonnett and Gerry Turner has been on going. Many members have offered to contact our shut-in's. Jerry Dodson has organized needed space in the church for office and medical supplies. Fred Way has always been ready to provide assistance. Anne Elder, RN has provided useful information to all ages in an artistic manner on the Parish Nurse Ministry Bulletin Board. There are many people who have worked in their quiet way to make this ministry viable.
The success of the programs under the Parish Nurse Ministries has been directly due to the loving, caring and support of everyone in our church. The most successful program has been the Bereavement Support Program under the dedicated leadership of Margaret Allen and Walter Thomas. They have a group of volunteers who have committed their time and efforts to serve the bereaved in a very special way.
As we move into another year, my prayers and thanks go to First Church members who have made this all possible. We always need volunteers to serve in many of our programs.

May God Bless you all for giving your time and efforts in such a loving and compassionate way.

The United Methodist Association of Health and Welfare Ministries is offering a free card that gives discounts of up to 50 percent on prescription drugs and other supplies, such as contact lenses, vitamins and drugs for pets.
The benefit is available to all United Methodist Church members, regardless of their insurance coverage, income or health status. The UMC is the first denomination to offer such a benefit. Cards are available immediately by calling 1-800-379-9040 and referring to the United Methodist Association. A web site is also being developed.
Complete information can be found in the April 2004 edition of the Advocate.
As of this writing we have had no receptions in April (17th).
We regret that we omitted the name of Annemarie Parker from our list of new members joining our committee. She had been so helpful all the time that we had already considered her "one of us." Welcome, Annemarie!
Co-chairs for the month of May are Jane Waters, Jerry Dodson and Yvonne Edwards.
