Described below are two of the recipients:
American Red Cross, Hampton Roads Chapter -- Mission: The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers and guided by its congressional charter and the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross, will provide relief to victims of disaster and help people to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. The Hampton Roads Chapter serves the residents of Hampton, Newport News and Isle of Wight County with Disaster Services, Blood Services, Armed Forces Emergency Services, and Health & Safety Services. Between September 16 and October 5, the HR Chapter opened and operated 16 emergency shelters, housed 4,408 shelter residents, provided 234,830 meals and snacks, (shelter and mobile units), plus distributed comfort kits, cleanup kits, and cleaning products. The HR Chapter's Mass Care expenses for the 3-week period exceeded $692,467. Disaster Emergency Services continue for the victims of Isabel.
FoodBank of the Virginia Peninsula -- Mission: To distribute food to those in need in the community effectively through collaborative efforts that minimize hunger, promote nutrition and self-reliance through education. During 2002, distributed over 6,000,000 pounds of food to the needy through 130 community agencies. Requests for food have greatly increased since Hurricane Isabel.
Storage space has been completed for the parish nurse's medical supplies.
The completion of all replacements of the toilets on the first floor has been accomplished.
The fire proofing of the stage curtains in the fellowship hall has been completed.
All the old brown chairs and storage rack have been removed from the hallway on the first floor. Church cleanup is still in progress.
Reminder: The sanctuary is scheduled to be painted in April. Watch for information about worship services. Your prayers and donations to the anniversary fund are needed for this project.
