PORT - PORT - PORT

At 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 24, we said good-bye to our guests from PORT. We can all be proud and happy that their visit with us was concluded so successfully.

During this time, FUMC provided six meals (three breakfasts and three dinners). Each of our partner churches provided one breakfast and one dinner. The total meals served being 14 during our week of hosting.

This year the number of guests was down from last year. We hosted 50-59 guests for dinner and overnight. One thing that made quite an impression on me was the willingness of the small churches who partnered with us to send volunteers to help us cover all our spaces on the duty chart. The ecumenical make up of PORT is one of its most valuable segments. It is such a pleasure to work with other churches and meet more of God's helping hands. It has been one of the most enjoyable additions to the PORT experience for me to make these new friends around the area.

Watch next month for facts and figures, but for now let me say Thank You from the homeless and the mission team.

You have been so diligent in bringing in the clothes. Please continue. I could not bear to think that you would discard them! Bring them to the church and they will go to help someone.

Recycle

Our recycling continues. We are getting more inkjet cartridges and hopefully by summer we will have enough to send in our first box.

Keep coming with the phones as well. Ask you business friends, neighbors, and distant family to recycle with you.

Please continue to recycle at home, all items the city picks up. If you have a large quantity of aluminum to recycle and you want to use it to benefit the Youth program, please call me at 877-2569 and I will arrange to pick it up.
