It is hard to believe that even with leap year,
February breezed by this fast. It has been a
very busy month with many meetings and
activities.
Clothes continue to come in for the homeless. We will collect them as long as you bring them to us. We never run out of people in need of them. Whenever you go through your clothes, remember to bring the unused, out of style, out of fit, and slightly worn to church for our homeless collection.
Another idea! If a class, circle or any church group would like to do something special -- consider buying underwear (briefs or boxers), or socks (black, white, brown or navy blue) or gloves. A gift of this type would be noted as coming from your group, but through the church. That would help us keep a record of the total mission activities and contributions from FUMC for the homeless at LINK.
Exciting activity as we prepare for the second visit of our homeless guests.
We have a different group of churches partnering with us this time. The churches are: Colossian Baptist, Missionary Society of District 3, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, and Unity Fellowship Church. These are all smaller churches or church groups than the ones we worked with in January,. Therefore, they do not have the large congregations to draw from that the other group had. What does this mean for us? We will need to provide more FUMC people to cover all the required positions that must be filled. There will be more meals to provide and more volunteers to handle: registering, check-in, and bag deposits, dinner preparation, serving, and clean up, bedding distribution, smoke breaks coverage, overnight coverage, early coffee making, and early breakfast, wake-ups, breakfast preparation, serving, and clean-up, bag retrieval, check-out with medications and all personal items, and after the bus leaves at 7:00 a.m. - overall clean up.
Watch for the sign-up board in the back hall, next to the kitchen. If you want to help, but are not sure what job you can do, just put your name and phone number on the blank list of "Willing Helpers" and I will call and talk to you about the different jobs and where you could best serve. We will also have more meals to be prepared and served. There is a job for everyone, if you are willing. I know our congregation supports this program for the homeless and that everyone will joyfully participate in this mission endeavor.
