Our first general meeting of 2004 was
held Tuesday, February 24. It was a
fantastic meeting. Jane Waters gave a
meaningful devotion, followed by an
informative Response moment by Billie
Way. Kathy Yates gave a report on United
Methodist Day at the General Assembly
from a first-timer's perspective. And Bette
Jones sang a beautiful duet with Lois
Pigford, from St. James United Methodist
Church. The main program was given by
Elaine Branch, Peninsula District UMW
Social Action Coordinator, with the aid of
members from St. James. The program was
followed with fellowship over lunch.
A special thanks goes to Cathy Williamson, June Loving and Kathy Yates for all the planning and prayer that went into this meeting. Also, "thank you" to Bertie Mills and Circle 3 for setting up for our luncheon and Barbara Cockburn and Circle 4 for the clean up. It takes a lot of people to bring a meeting like this together.
If you missed this meeting, I hope you will plan to attend the next one in May. I promise it will be just as meaningful.
I also want to thank everyone for awarding me with the mission award pin for 2003. What a surprise! (Women can keep a secret.) I am honored and humbled by your kindness. Most of you will never know just how much it means to me and how it could not have come at a better time.
In a few days, four of us will be leaving Virginia and going to Louisville, Kentucky for the Southern Jurisdiction Quadrennial Meeting. Erleen Wheeling will be traveling with the conference bus. Kathy Yates, Cathy Williamson and myself will be driving ourselves. All of us are very excited about going and will be eager to share everything with you when we return. The meeting will be March 12 - 14. Please keep us in your prayers while we are gone.
Well, the Fashion Show is just around the corner, literally. Myrna Young has graciously agreed to chair this event and is hard at work looking for helpers. Kathy Hubbard is overseeing lunch; Teresa Michener, tickets; Teresa Harrell, publicity; and Jean McClellan, models. And Judy Talbert is making our center pieces. Ladies, please, please say, "yes" if one of these ladies calls you for help. This is a large undertaking and takes a lot of people to pull it together.
