Midweek Fellowship continues on Wednesday, February 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The United Methodist Men will be hosting the dinner. We will also meet on Ash Wednesday, February 25 with Jack Stodghill's Sunday School Class hosting. The cost of the meal is by donation. From 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Mr. John LeGault will continue the study of Favorite Bible Passages. Please make reservations through the Sunday bulletin or by calling the church office the Monday prior to the Wednesday when Midweek Fellowship is scheduled. It is very important that you sign up.
For the past eight years, Newport
News Public Schools and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
have cooperatively sponsored a one-day
program, which focuses on
encouraging and preparing students
to attend college. The program, called
MEGAGENESIS, will be hosted at Woodside
High School on February 28, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00
p.m.
MEGAGENESIS consists of four phases: 1) a renowned keynote speaker, 2) college recruiters from over 71 universities and colleges, 3) corporate exhibits demonstrating uses of various college majors, and 4) over 57 workshops conducted by professionals (e.g., doctors, engineers, etc.) The guest speaker this year is Dr. Belle S. Wheelan, Secretary of Education for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Youth in grades 5 through 12 (and parents) are invited to this day-long event. There is no cost involved. Lunch will be provided free of charge to all attendees. If you would like to register for this event, please see Annette Pomeroy at the church office. Registration deadline is Sunday, February 15.
The Virginia Conference Laity Spiritual Growth Retreat is scheduled at Blackstone on Saturday and Sunday, April 17-18. The theme is Come unto Me and Take My Yoke. Dr. Evelyn Laycock will be the retreat leader with Nancy VanZant and Wes Astin as music leaders. Cost is $68 for the weekend.
