In the Mail

Dear Members of First United Methodist Church,

There really are no "new" words that adequately convey our thanks for every gesture made from so many of you to me and my family during my intense surgery in November and now, the long-term, "baby-step" convalescence and changes to our lives.

Whether you have called, visited, sent cards, fixed wonderful (and I mean WONDERFUL) comfort foods, and prayed, each and all been instrumental in my remaining positive, patient, and sane!! I can barely grasp just how much you all have continued to show us your true Christian love. We three are full of humility, gratitude, and awe--again, beyond words! "Letting go and letting God" has new meaning to me, and it remains my constitution.

Our heartfelt thanks for your shepherding us through yet another relentless medical challenge. May God bless you for your healing prayers and love; they continue to make an inordinate difference. I just know 2004 holds hope and promise. These are also what we wish for each of you.

In Christ's Love,
Debi Nicolai

I would like to express my appreciation to all who sent me cards, called, came by the house, sent food, flowers, memorial donations or prayed for my family during my husband, Carl's illness and subsequent death. The outpouring of concern and support was a true inspiration to me and my family.

Carl loved First Church so much, and treasured his association with its members and our wonderful pastor, John LeGault. Thank you for bringing joy to a very sad occasion.

Steve and I were so impressed when the United Methodist Youth Fellowship came to our house on 12-7-03 and sang to us. They not only did a beautiful job of that but also brought a shoe box decorated for Christmas, and this was filled with fruit, cookies and candy kisses, which the children furnished. There were nine children, also Annette Pomeroy and Steve Elder, who brought the singers. The children do this on the first Sunday of December annually, to bring joy to those that they entertain.

A big Thank You for the youth, as well as their leaders, because they deserve a job well done, and the youth are our Church of tomorrow.

Steve and Chris Michalec

Processing Our Mail

The most important pieces of mail, or those most meaningful to us, always seem to arrive at a harried moment, when all we can do is glance at them and set them aside, hopefully for a more leisurely perusal later.

Letters reread when one is relaxed, magazine articles finally explored in depth, the fine print of business correspondence pondered in a quiet frame of mind, all of this happens when we can at last fully take time to digest our mail.

So it is with God and Scripture. We receive messages from God every day, in the beauty of His earth, in the love and kindness of people we encounter, in inspiring sermons, literature and music. Then we must assimilate these wonders we have observed by taking time to sit down with our Bibles and study God's word. And pray for deeper understanding and faith.

How precious is your steadfast love, O God.

Psalm 36:7
