"All God's Children's, Camp"

A United Methodist Virginia Conference Initiative, "All God's Children's Camp" is a camp for children of incarcerated mothers. There are three locations now, one in Westview on the James in Goochland, another Camp Highroad in Middleburg and a new site at Future Farmers of America Camp in Smithfield.

A total of 129 children attended the camp in 2003. There were 152 volunteer mentors in addition to the camp counselors.

The children participate in a variety of activities including, Bible study, swimming, music, crafts, worship, recreation, and harmony (which is conflict resolution).

Funds are needed so they can have a full camp each of the three weeks. There are so many more children then they have room for during the three weeks in the summer. It may be possible for another week to be added. Any expansion of time or services will be costly. The need is great -- please be generous!

PORT is here and "yes" we need you!

PORT has started and as always we need your help! This time we have five partner churches who will be providing meals and "people power" for six of our seven days. Therefore, not as many are needed. We need two people, who know the church to be in the building (in shifts) from 5:30 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. each of our seven days. You could sign up with a friend for a four-hour shift on any day(s) you select. When another church is in charge of the operation for that day, there must be someone who is familiar with our church to show where things are and answer basic questions. Everyone will have emergency numbers available at all times. No one will be on their own.

And as always, food will be needed for the one dinner and one breakfast that we are responsible for preparing. Do not be disappointed all you good cooks out there; when we have our second week in March, we have only three partner churches so more meals will be needed.

I have about 14 names from Sunday. They signed up after the second service. If you will volunteer, I will call you and we can discuss what job is right for you. Also, the whole mission team will be playing a vital part in this operation.

We are not using a sign-up board this time because so few spots are to be filled, but it will be used in March. If you are willing to add your name to the volunteer list, stop by the church office and give your name and phone number to Gerry or call her at 595-0383 or contact me at 877-2569 -- leave a message if I'm not home.

If you receive this after PORT is over, just consider it a "prelim" for our March 17-24 hosting. We will need you more then! Pray for us that all goes will and pray for our homeless also.
