Mission Notes

June Loving, Captain

The fall weather has been very pleasant, at least at the time of this writing. What a nice change. We really needed a respite after Isabel.

Inkjet cartridge - recycling

In case you think that the inkjet cartridge recycling has been forgotten, that is not the case. The company that sounded so great, did not have any of our local cartridges on their acceptance list. That is why you have not heard any more about that recycling for a while. Fortunately we have found one company that will accept the type cartridges we use most frequently in this part of the US. The company we will be using is "Empties 4 Cash." However, they also have a few restrictions. They will NOT accept any laser jet cartridges nor will they accept any Epson brand ink jet cartridges, something about not having a print head. Therefore, please bring in any other brands of INK JET cartridges, as you empty them. Any monies earned from this project will also be used for your Youth Mission Adventures and Activities, etc.

Port clothing and toiletry drive

The clothing and toiletries drive sponsored by LINK/PORT was scheduled for Saturday, October 25, the same day as our UMW Craft Show. The notification was received too late to get it into the bulletin, so we will participate, after the fact. They can use the items any time, now that the winter season is almost upon us. If you have any new or used men's work clothing, such as; pants, shirts, socks, sweaters, jackets, etc., bring them to the church and deposit them in the box in the Narthex. Jerry Dodson, and the Good News Class will still be collecting - toiletries. The clothes will be delivered to PORT by your mission team.

Food Lion "Shop and Share" Program

Food Lion reminded us, if we want to earn money through their "Shop and Share Program" the MVP cards must be re-linked. All FUMC Members who have an MVP card can name the church as the receiver of the rebate funds. This is provided for any charity that registers with them. First United Methodist Church, Newport News, VA is registered and ready to participate. Here is what you need to do to make our church the receiver of these funds, which will be used in our FUMC youth mission activities: Each member with an MVP card must re-link their card number and indicate First Church as it is listed above. This is done by e-mail. If you will give me your name and card number, I will be happy to enter them all at one time. There will be a clipboard on the table in the front office for your convenience. If you do not have a card and wish to participate, go to any Food Lion and request one and name FUMC as receiver.

Society of St. Andrew Results

Thank you for your wonderful support of the Society of St. Andrew's Communion collection, $458.25 and the Potato Luncheon, $512.00. There were about 103 people who attended the luncheon. Many hungry children, families, and homeless people will benefit from your contributions. I feel blessed to be a member of this church family.
