The Cherub/Wesley Choir welcomes new members, Erin Coleman and Elizabeth Daley. John Elder moved up to the Epworth Choir after many faithful years in the Cherub/Wesley Choir. We still have room for more and it is not too late to join us! The October schedule is as follows:

October 12 The Epworth Choir will sing at both services

October 26 The Cherub/Wesley Choir will sing at both services

All October The Chancel Choir will sing at

Sundays 10:45 a.m.

Life Enrichment Series - Sunday, October 26 ,4:00 p.m.

Mother and daughter, Susan Hines and Erin Hines will be our guests as they present a concert for two cellos. Heidi Block will be their accompanist. Susan is a member of the Virginia Symphony, teaches cello, and has played several times for our choir concerts. Erin, a former voice student of Mary Matthews Garrett, is a cello major in college, and has won numerous competitions. As a high school student, she holds the distinction of being the youngest person in twenty-five years to be a member of the Virginia Symphony. Heidi is organist/choirmaster at Trinity Episcopal Church in Smithfield and at Temple Sinai in Newport News.

Life Enrichment Series applauded in Daily Press annual arts calendar

Daily Press arts writer and critic, David Nicholson highlighted the Life Enrichment Series in the 2003 annual cultural events calendar as one of the community offerings that "continues to paint a vibrant and varied canvas that enriches our lives," giving special mention of our September program featuring Robert and Will Crutchfield.

Who Is John Wesley?

Virginia Wesleyan College continues its celebration of the 300th birthday of John Wesley with its Fall Convocation on October 21 at 11:00 a.m. in the Batten Convocation Center. Dr. Richard Heitzenrater, the William Kellon Quick Professor of Church History and Wesley Studies at Duke Divinity School will be the speaker. Dr. Heitzenrater is General Editor of the Bicentennial Edition of the Works of John Wesley, which includes his work in the seven volumes of Journals and Diaries. He has lectured at many distinguished institutions across North America as well as Great Britain, Europe, Japan, Singapore, and Brazil. Dr. Heitzenrater has published over a dozen books, including Wesley and the People Called Methodists, now translated into six languages. The event is free and open to the public.
