Isabel has come and gone and the mess and inconvenience remain. As I write this, many neighborhoods are dark. We are finding ways to cope and some have felt guilty they were hardly without power. Our homes have been nicked, scraped, or severely dented by trees and their branches. There are piles of branches, cut tree trunks and other tree parts in front of our homes. I'm still cooking on our gas grill. All in all we have survived, haven't missed a meal and I can still sleep in my own bed. Thank you, Lord! My children and grandchildren haven't been hurt, and my granddaughters think all this has really been a big house party! So be it.

I'm asking you to please, please remember that October 5 and 12 are Loyalty Sundays. You received a letter from Bill Knoble and me about our projected budget for 2004. In that budget were projections for replacement of the Sanctuary AC which was severely crippled this summer with 40% not working at all. Also, the figures for the 2004 budget include a modest cost of living increase for all staff. We gave no increases last year. Other program costs and building costs are also figured in. You might want to review the letter and consider your part in giving to your church in '04. The Trustees are seriously considering an elevator project for next year, though this has not formally been approved by your Church Council yet.

Please plan to be present as you are able during these difficult clean up days as we remember our church and make a pledge for next year. Your pledge card was in your envelope and we will have some here at the church. No dinner will follow these services this year. We feel that we do enough eating all the rest of the year and more dining wasn't necessary. Our work is serious and we could not do it without your love, loyalty and support and the Lord, whom we serve.
