There will not be any meetings during the summer but look forward to the fall and continue to "Rise Up, O Men of God" and be faithful in all you do.
Marguerite Pope Thompson was recently nominated as a Black History Month Hero of Hampton Roads, a recognition sponsored by the Daily Press and radio stations 103 JAMZ and VIBE 105.3. "She is a truly remarkable lady and at a young 85 continues to demonstrate with grace and poise traits that we could all benefit from," said Hidenwood's Director, Bridget Mitchell's letter of nomination.
Marguerite spent her childhood in Virginia and in New York, and saved enough money to attend Bennett College, where she majored in home economics. She received her bachelor's degree in three and a half years, and went on to earn her master's in clothing and textiles from the University of Wisconsin.
She has volunteered in numerous capacities during her retirement, focusing on history, culture and young people. She participates in the Life Long Learning Society at Christopher Newport University and is an active member of our church, where she presents two programs a year on Black History.
She recently purchased a computer in order to compile a family history for her numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Marguerite, you are one of our heroes!

Summit Christian Academy (SCA) is a Classical Christian school serving students in K-4 through 12th grade.
