We appreciate the great work and
dedication of our choirs and their regular
contribution to our Sunday services.
Members attend rehearsals held most
Wednesday evenings from September
through June, and many of them are
involved in multiple choirs with rehearsals
from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. On the Sundays they
play, rehearsal call is at 7:45 a.m., and they
play for both services. Summer gives them
a nice break so they can come back refreshed in the fall.

What an inspiring trip! On June 6th and 7th a group from FUMC and from the whole Peninsula District visited Henry Fork Service Center in Franklin County, Virginia. The group from our church included: Gerry Bowden, Maynard and Mary Charlotte Corson, Elsie Couchman, June Loving, Carolyn Snyder, Judy Talbert, and Gerry Turner.
We were given the opportunity to work with the children, sort donated clothing, put away the bus load of paper products we brought with us, or whatever job presented itself. Susan Putnam, Executive Director and Deaconess, gave us a tour and explanation of the services provided by the center and something of the background of the people in that county and the needs of the children served. She showed us the field where the new building will be built and thanked us for coming to see the facilities and services first hand. As you know this is one of the recipients of the Conference Offering taken on the 1st Sunday in June.
The next day we visited Ferrum College and even the persistent rain did not dampen our enthusiasm for the lunch and musical play Smoke on the Mountain. Rev. Wes Astin, Chaplain led us to the Vaughn Chapel which is very unique and inspiring, where we sang and had fellowship together.
We thank Debbie Lewis, our UMW District Mission Coordinator for Education and Interpretation, for organizing the trip, bus, rooms, and meals. It was quite a job, but she did it with diplomacy, dignity and dispatch.
