As we prepare for VBS, there are various items used in craft projects which we need to save. Below is a list of those items. Bring all items to Annette Pomeroy's office at the church.
Mark your calendar for Midweek Fellowship on Wednesday, May 7 and 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The foundation is hosting on May 7 and the United Methodist Women are sponsoring the dinner on May 21 (our last one until September). The cost of the meal is by donation. Mr. John LeGault will continue the study on "Three Hundred Years of Methodism," from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. A celebration of The Love Feast will be held on May 21. (See accompanying article about The Love Feast.) Please make reservations through the Sunday bulletin or by calling the church office the Monday prior to the Wednesday when Midweek Fellowship is scheduled. Please note that child care is provided for infants through 3rd graders.
Mentors are now being recruited for the All God's Children Camp for children (ages 7-11) of incarcerated mothers. Due to the great need, two weeks have been set aside: August 3-8 at Camp Highroad in Middleburg, VA and August 10-15 at Westview on the James in Goochland, VA. A week-long day camp for children (ages 5-9) is also scheduled for June 29 - July 4 at FFA/FHA Camp in Smithfield, VA.
This is a meaningful opportunity to become friends with a child who so desperately needs a friend. Mentors spend the entire week at camp with the children. Mentors do not lead activities, but rather provide supervision and companionship to the children during the daily activities, mealtimes, and bedtime rituals. Training is provided the Saturday before each week of camp. Applications are available from Annette Pomeroy at the church office.
Family Life is planning a First Methodist outing, Sunday afternoon, June 15 at a Tides Game. Watch your bulletins for cost and more information.
Our talented knitter, Monetta Joyce, is hard at work on knit caps for PORT for next season. She has used all of her yarn and now needs more. Please contribute some yarn (acrylic wool), so she can continue her knitting. Leave it in the church office marked "Yarn for PORT." We would also take contributions if you do not have any yarn.
