Parish Nurse Ministry is grounded in the concept of holistic health, which implies that physical health is an interplay of body, mind and spirit. The month of May begins my third year as Parish Nurse at FUMC. The past two years have been filled with rewarding and challenging times. It has been a great experience to get to know many members of our church family and to be of service in many aspects of their lives. Additional programs have been developed or reorganized under the umbrella of Parish Nurse Ministries.
This could not have been accomplished without the Christian love and dedication of many volunteers. Anne Elder, RN has faithfully provided an informational bulletin board on medical or other items of general interest on a monthly basis; Margaret Allen and Walter Thomas accepted the challenge of Co-chairing the Bereavement Support Program. Two persons a month have volunteered to serve as Co-leaders to organize people willing to provide food for each reception. This has been a huge success and gratefully acknowledged by family members who have utilized this outpouring of Christian love.
The Shut-In Program was reorganized with the support of the UMW Circles, the Disciple Bible Study Group and many dedicated individuals. They are making contact by visits, telephone calls, cards and notes on a monthly basis. This is recorded and records are kept for accurate accountability.
It is with grateful humility that I will continue this ministry. This program is for YOU! The program is only possible with the support from all of you and of the entire Church and Volunteer Staff. John LeGault has been especially supportive with his encouragement and prayers for all of us involved in this vital service to our church family. I sincerely thank each and every one of you and give praise to God for all you do.
