Notes From the

Bette C. Jones, RN

THE HEALING CHRIST: God uses medicine, hospitals, and various psychotherapies to bring healing, but these resources alone are insufficient to meet our total health care needs. Many major churches are now offering active, effective healing ministries. The churches will not replace the healing professions and medical sciences, but more and more Christians are seeking the best medical care and the best spiritual care combined!

Whole-person ministry attempts to treat each person as a unity of body, mind, and spirit. It recognizes the close connection between a person's sense of well-being and self-esteem to one's overall health. It assumes that health is a composite result of emotions and spiritual focus, as well as physical conditions. There are five kinds of health: Spiritual; Physical; Mental/Emotional; Healthy Relationships; and Ultimate Health in the Resurrection Following the Death of the body.

Following a sermon on, "JESUS THE PHYSICIAN," on February 9, 2003, Rev. LeGault offered the opportunity for persons seeking the healing and wholeness that only Christ can give to come to the altar for prayer and anointing with oil. Anointing with oil is an authentic biblical symbol for healing. Anointing the forehead, while making the sign of the cross with the thumb or forefinger, is a sacramental symbol pointing beyond itself to the presence of the Holy Spirit or to Christ who is God's anointed Messiah.

Our Minister and I have discussed this ministry and will offer a time for healing prayers on the second Sunday of each month at the end of the service.

HEALING IS PRAYER MINISTRY. PRAYER MINISTRY IS HEALING MINISTRY!
