We had our first executive board meeting with our new officers for 2003. Several members attended the District Training sessions and they will implement the suggestions made by the district officers in our local unit.
On February 18 we will have the first of four general meetings during the year. Information will be presented about the Henry Fork Center on the Danville District and Ferrum College, one of our Colleges which is supported by the United Methodist Women. There is an overnight trip planned to visit these places in June. Call Debbie Lewis at 253-0626 if interested. Also, at this meeting we will recognize the recipient of the 2002 Special Mission Recognition Pin and certificate which is given annually. You will learn more about the time and meal at your next circle meeting, as we anticipate a change.
A Mission Event, "Rekindle the Flame" (Membership Nurture and Outreach) will be held at St. Mark's United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 8, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. Pat Owens, a conference officer, will be the featured speaker. Following the speaker, there will be several activities for everyone. At 11:30 a.m. a lunch will be served by the district team. This event should be interesting as well as informative.

When our daughter was a graduate student at Cambridge University, my dear husband persuaded me to fly over to visit her. That fall, the old buildings were beautiful, against a carpet of green grass and brilliant flowers. I sat in on my daughter's anthropology class, helped her prepare a high tea for her friends, and we attended an Evensong service at King's College.
So a delightful and unexpected bonus then was my daughter's suggestion of, "Mother, would you like to go to Scotland?" We took the train to Edinburgh and after several wonderful days there, we traveled up to Inverness. Again, it was exciting to mingle with the inimitable Scots and enjoy their food, culture and countryside. All this, for my special bonus.
I hope that Heaven will be like that, and I think it will be. Everything we have ever expected from the promises of Jesus, and much, much more. Glories we never anticipated or dreamed of. That, I believe, will be our Heaven's bonus.
In my Father's house there are many mansions... John 14:2
It has the glory of God and a radiance like a very rare jewel, like jasper, clear as crystal.
