From the Pastor's Desk...

thank54.gif A GREAT BIG THANK YOU is on my mind as we start this New Year 2003. A big thank you to all who helped us make budget at the end of 2002. I was really concerned and that is why your finance chair and I called for a Miracle Sunday before Christmas. I did not want us to come up short with our apportionments to the Annual Conference. All of these are so important in the life of our church and of our Conference. We are an important church in this District and I would hate for us not to be a "team player." So, a big thank you!

A big thank you to our Music Ministry! Thank you all choirs, thank you Mary Matthews Garrett and John Garrett for the beautiful music for Advent and Christmas. Christmas Eve's Concert was also well received and we had a full church for that. I know they appreciated getting ready and having that response. The music of Advent/Christmas always sets me in the direction I need to go and it surely did this year.

A great big thank you to our Missions Work Area. Thank you for the Christmas boxes we delivered on that Saturday before Christmas. You gave so generously to that whole ministry, we did not have to ask a second time for help. You were there. Thanks to all of those who got ready for PORT, which started on New Year's night. We housed an average of about 75 men and women and it was cold some of those nights too. Thanks to all who rolled out at 4:00 a.m. to be here at 5:00 a.m. for various stages of breakfast. Grateful thanks to June Loving whose energy seems to be boundless.

A great big thank you to all who "Hung the Greens," the Worship Committee who saw to the Chrismon Tree in our Sanctuary and the poinsettias that were more beautiful than ever. Annemarie Parker and Betty Miller, co-chairs are to be especially thanked for their watchfulness over this whole effort. They are so careful that it's all done right. Advent/Christmas was all in place because of their efforts too. Thanks to Brent Bates who has tried to get younger families involved and did the Manger mural in the Fellowship Hall. It made a beautiful witness of what this season was all about.

A great big thanks to the FUMC Pre-school and Kim Webster, director for their wonderful program on December 16 in our Sanctuary. It was full of parents, grandparents, relatives and friends all coming to see our pre-school children tell the Christmas Story. Finally, a big thanks to Annette Pomeroy who is behind the scenes on many happenings here. Annette always makes sure everything is done right and well, and we appreciate her so much.

God Bless.
