From the Pastor's Desk . . .
January is upon us already and a new year to begin again. I am thankful to all of you as I write this for your help and cooperation this past year in all areas of our church life. We have been very busy, but I hope it has been given all to God's glory.
Epiphany season begins on January 6, which is
the twelfth day of
Christmas. Epiphany celebrates the coming of
the Wise Men, and the baptism of Jesus.
Epiphany color is green meaning the
spreading of the gospel everywhere. As the
Wise Men went out from that encounter with
Jesus, the Gospel says they went another way.
They sure did. They had bowed to the savior
of the world and their lives would be forever
changed. So Epiphany means that we spread
the Word into a dark cold world waiting to hear
some good news from someone.
A big event of Sunday, January 19 will be the visit of Daniel and Lisa Godwin who are missionaries to Ecuador. Together with their children, they will all have a story to tell us of their lives in the "Middle of the World." The Godwins are from the Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church in Gulf Breeze, Florida, a very large congregation of more than six thousand members. Their call to the missionary life was and is a great witness of Christ's work in their lives. They will be a part of our services here on that Sunday, January 19, both services) so I hope all of you will be able to come and meet them.
We will also begin our Wednesday Midweek Fellowship evenings with a good look at Methodism, its history and beliefs. Make it a date for Wednesday, January 8, 5:30 p.m. for dinner and 6:30 p.m. for our study time.
Happy New Year
